Google Play Store & Multiplatform Compliant

KuTasks Privacy Policy

Application: KuTasks (com.kutasks.app) • Platforms: Android 13+ & Windows 10+ Desktop • Effective Date: October 7, 2026 • Version: 1.0.0

🛡️ Plain-English Summary (Data Sovereignty First)

KuTasks is designed from the ground up as an offline-first, local sovereignty productivity application.

  • We do not collect, store, sell, or transmit your personal data or task contents to any remote cloud servers.
  • Zero Accounts: You do not need to create an account, log in, or provide an email address to use KuTasks.
  • Zero Trackers: There are no advertising SDKs, no behavioral analytics (no Google Firebase, no Crashlytics, no telemetry).
  • Local Wi-Fi Only Sync: Peer-to-peer device sync operates strictly over your private local Wi-Fi network without external cloud relays.
  • Full Data Ownership: All tasks, notes, habits, and preferences reside solely on your local device storage in a local SQLite database.

1. Information We Do NOT Collect

Because KuTasks operates on a strict local-first model, we do not collect or process any of the following categories of information:

  • Personal Identifiers: Names, email addresses, phone numbers, postal addresses, or account usernames.
  • Device Identifiers & Advertising IDs: We do not collect Google Advertising IDs (GAID), Android IDs, MAC addresses, or hardware fingerprints.
  • Telemetry & Usage Analytics: We do not track screen views, button clicks, usage times, or behavioral telemetry.
  • Crash Logs: Crash reports and system logs remain on your device and are never automatically transmitted over the network.
  • Location Data: KuTasks never requests or accesses GPS or precise device geolocation.

2. Information Stored Locally on Your Device

All data created inside KuTasks is stored locally on your device within the application's sandboxed storage directory in an offline SQLite database (on-device storage):

  • Tasks & Subtasks: Task titles, markdown notes, due dates/times, completion statuses, priority levels, and subtask checklists.
  • Organization: Projects, tags, and MoSCoW agile classification tiers (Must, Should, Could, Won't).
  • Habits & Routines: Daily checklist items, routine completion histories, and daily streak counts.
  • Focus Logs: Pomodoro session timestamps and focus duration totals.
  • Preferences: Theme selections (Espresso, Porcelain, AMOLED, Accent Palettes), sound settings, and notification configurations stored in local key-value preferences.

This data is strictly private and never leaves your device unless you initiate a local Wi-Fi sync transfer to another device you own or perform a manual file export.

3. Peer-to-Peer (P2P) Local Wi-Fi Synchronization

KuTasks includes an optional peer-to-peer sync feature that enables seamless synchronization between your Android smartphone and Windows Desktop PC. Here is exactly how this operates:

  • Local Subnet Only: Devices discover each other using local Multicast DNS (mDNS) with the service type _kutasks._tcp. This discovery occurs strictly within your private local Wi-Fi router / Local Area Network (LAN).
  • Direct WebSockets (Port 9847): Once discovered, devices establish a direct peer-to-peer WebSocket connection on port 9847.
  • Zero Cloud Intermediaries: Your data travels directly from Device A to Device B over your local home or office router. No cloud servers, external brokers, or relay nodes are ever contacted. If your Wi-Fi router has no internet connection, local sync continues to function completely without interruption.

4. Android Permissions Justification

In full compliance with Google Play Store Developer Policies, the table below documents every permission declared in our AndroidManifest.xml and its exact, limited technical purpose:

Permission Access Type Purpose & Justification
POST_NOTIFICATIONS Runtime (Android 13+) Used solely to deliver user-scheduled task due date alerts, active Pomodoro focus countdown notifications, and optional sticky task count widgets in the notification drawer.
SCHEDULE_EXACT_ALARM
USE_EXACT_ALARM
Special Permission Enables setting exact-time alarms for user-specified task due dates and reminders, ensuring timely reminders even when the device is in Doze mode.
RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED Normal Permission Restores user-scheduled task reminder alarms after your device is rebooted, preventing missed deadlines.
ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE
ACCESS_WIFI_STATE
CHANGE_WIFI_MULTICAST_STATE
Normal Permissions Used solely to detect local Wi-Fi network connectivity and enable mDNS multicast packet transmission (_kutasks._tcp) for pairing devices on the same local Wi-Fi network.
INTERNET Normal Permission Required by the Android operating system to bind local network TCP sockets (port 9847) for local Wi-Fi P2P synchronization. KuTasks never connects to external internet servers.
RECORD_AUDIO Optional Runtime Used exclusively when you tap the Quick Capture microphone button to dictate a task. Audio is streamed directly to Android's built-in system RecognitionService for on-device speech-to-text. Audio is never recorded, saved to storage, or transmitted to any external server.
READ_CALENDAR Optional Runtime Optional permission allowing you to view existing events from your local Google or system calendar inside KuTasks's daily agenda. Calendar entries are read in-memory and are never modified, saved into the database, or transmitted externally.
FOREGROUND_SERVICE
FOREGROUND_SERVICE_SPECIAL_USE
FOREGROUND_SERVICE_DATA_SYNC
Service Permissions Maintains an active timer countdown notification during Pomodoro focus sessions and prevents premature process termination during active local Wi-Fi sync data transfers.
VIBRATE Normal Permission Provides subtle tactile haptic feedback when completing tasks, eating the daily Frog, and toggling Pomodoro timer intervals.
WAKE_LOCK Normal Permission Prevents device sleep temporarily during active Pomodoro countdown notifications and local data sync transfers.

5. Third-Party Services and Analytics

KuTasks contains zero third-party tracking, advertising, or analytics SDKs. Specifically:

  • No Google Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics, or Cloud Messaging.
  • No Facebook / Meta SDK or ad libraries.
  • No third-party ad networks (e.g., Google AdMob, Unity Ads).
  • All application components and storage engines operate purely on-device without remote telemetric reporting or cloud tracking.

6. Data Retention, Portability, and Deletion

You have complete control and total ownership of your data at all times:

  • Data Export: You can export your tasks and projects at any time using the built-in Data Portability tools in Markdown (with Obsidian frontmatter), RFC 4180 CSV, JSON snapshot, or atomic SQLite database snapshot.
  • Data Deletion: You can permanently delete all data at any moment by navigating to your Android device settings → Apps → KuTasks → Storage → Clear Data, or by uninstalling the application. Because no data is stored on remote servers, deleting local app data erases all data irreversibly and immediately.

7. Children's Privacy (COPPA Compliance)

KuTasks does not knowingly collect, request, or solicit personal information from children under the age of 13 (or under 16 in the European Economic Area). Because the application collects zero personal information from any user, it is fully compliant with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and international child privacy regulations.

8. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically to reflect new application features or platform policy requirements. Any updates will be published immediately to this page with an updated "Effective Date" at the top. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
